Man, I have playlists that took me years to put together, which are kind of a timeline of my musical taste, and I’d like to share that in an easier way. And it doesn’t help that I use Tidal, which the vast majority of my friends don’t even know what it is.

At first, I just wanted to create a little app for you to manage this kind of playlist, but without the social part. It would just be a place where you put the link to a playlist on service X, it would stay in the app’s database and you could migrate that playlist to other services. The platform would map the song to the song (suggesting similar ones when it doesn’t find a match) and create the playlist on the other platform.

That way, someone you know could send you a link to a playlist and you could have it on any service. I know, there are already sites and apps that do this, but I wanted an easy, cross-platform way, maybe even a way to synchronize between apps. But then I started reading about ActivityPub. And it seemed to me that it would make the idea more interesting if it could be something social. Not just the idea of sharing playlists, but having a cool way of sharing your tastes again, like with Last.fm, but making it easier to exchange content and import it into the platform.

And that’s basically my idea with Playlist Gateway. A federated social network for exchanging music and playlists across streaming platforms, so that no matter which platform you and other people use, everyone can exchange content.

Mas aí eu comecei a ler sobre o ActivityPub. E me pareceu que deixaria a ideia mais interessante se isso pudesse ser algo social. Não só mais a ideia de compartilhar playlists, mas voltar a ter um jeito legal de compartilhar o seu gosto, como com o Last.fm, mas facilitar a troca dos conteúdos e a importação na plataforma.

E é basicamente isso a minha ideia com o Playlist Gateway. Uma rede social federada de troca de músicas e playlists através das plataformas de streaming, de forma que não importa qual plataforma você e as outras pessoas usem, todos possam trocar conteúdos.
